How Much Does Driveway Sealing Cost? What Changes the Price
If your driveway has gone pale, patchy or stained, colour sealing can make it look close to new again, without the cost of replacing the concrete. But how much does it cost? If you just want a fixed price for your driveway, see our driveway sealing in Wollongong page. Our driveway clean and colour seal starts from $25/m² incl GST, using NuTech sealer with a crushed-glass anti-slip additive and a 1-year warranty.
There's no single price that fits every driveway. A small, sound driveway that just needs a clean and two coats is a very different job to a large stamped driveway with old peeling sealer and oil stains. Here's what actually changes the price, and how to get a fixed quote.
What affects the cost of driveway sealing?
- Size. More square metres means more cleaning, more sealer and more time.
- Type of surface. We regularly seal exposed aggregate, stamped and plain concrete driveways, as well as pavers. Stamped and patterned surfaces take more care to get an even finish.
- Condition. Cracks, crumbling edges or damaged areas need to be assessed first. Sealing improves the look, but it doesn't fix structural damage.
- Old coatings. If there's an old sealer that's peeling or patchy, it may need extra preparation so the new coats bond properly.
- Stains and growth. Oil, tyre marks, mould and moss all have to come off before sealing. Heavy stains add cleaning time.
- Colour or clear. We do colour sealing and clear sealing. We'll help you pick what suits the surface and the house.
- Access and extra areas. Paths, patios and side areas can be done at the same time, which usually works out better value than separate bookings.
Why preparation matters so much
Sealer only lasts if it bonds to clean, dry concrete. That's why every job starts with a thorough clean to remove oil, stains, mould and organic growth, then the surface has to dry completely before the first coat goes on. We apply two coats of sealer for an even finish and better protection against oil, stains and UV.
Poor preparation is a common reason sealer peels or looks patchy early. If one quote is much cheaper than the others, check whether it includes a proper clean and two coats.
What should a driveway sealing quote include?
- Which areas are included (driveway, paths, patio, edges)
- How the surface will be cleaned and prepared, including oil stains
- Whether old coatings need extra preparation
- Colour or clear sealer, and how many coats
- How long to keep cars off it (it depends on the product and weather; you'll get written instructions for your job)
- Whether the price includes GST
How long does driveway sealing last?
It depends on traffic, sun exposure and how well the surface was prepared. A properly applied two-coat system on a well-prepared surface gives a durable, long-lasting finish. Keeping it clean and resealing when it starts to fade keeps it looking good for longer. Our post on whether to seal your driveway after cleaning covers this in more detail.
